About MeI grew up in Goshen, New York. I took piano lessons for many years and was a basketball player in high school. I attended Wheaton College in Wheaton, Illinois where I received my BA in mathematics. I student taught in high school and completed the requirements for secondary education, grades 7-12. Following college I married my husband Paul and we moved to Jackson, Mississippi where he attended graduate school and I taught grades 6 -9 math. I also was the cheerleading coach. When my husband transferred schools to complete his training in Pennsylvania, I taught part-time at LaSalle University and a local community college.

My husband’s work brought us to Connecticut. We have two sons. My oldest son Paul is a professor in sociology at the University of California, Irvine. He does research in the area of education. He and his wife Kristy have a five year old son, Paul IV. My youngest son is a professor at Princeton. Jonathan does research in pure mathematics in the field of topology and does some teaching. He and his wife Emily have a two and one-half year old son, Wesley, and a 6 week old daughter, Claire. I am very much enjoying my new grandma role.
When my boys were young, I was a stay at home mom and taught part time at Three Rivers Community College. I started teaching in Ledyard when my youngest started school. I have been the Mathcounts coach at LMS for many years.
Outside of school I enjoy reading, watching sports, and taking ballroom dance lessons.. My husband and I have enjoyed learning waltz, tango, foxtrot, cha-cha, rhumba, swing, salsa and hustle the last five years. We love the community of dance friends we have found and love the challenge of learning new things. I enjoy traveling. Special places are Iceland, Switzerland and the Netherlands. My church family is important to me, and I have been involved as a group leader in a Bible study for many years. My favorite ice cream is java chip and my favorite pizza is white pizza with meatball.
My husband Paul is retired from teaching and currently volunteers at LMS to work with students who need help with math.
I look forward to new beginnings this year. I believe all students can be successful in math. Belief in oneself, perseverance, and willingness to learn from one’s mistakes are important qualities for students to have. I look forward to working with each of my students as they take on the challenges of middle school. I also look forward to working with each of their parents as they walk with their children through these transitional years.
